Input Managers vs. Output managers

The first manages observable performance (arrival time, desk time, computer time, non-working time, interactions with others, visits to and from their office and perhaps bathrooms, lunch and breaks and departure times).

The second, Output Managers, manages actual performance (deliverables, deadlines, contributions, discretionary effort). All of this is key to effective management, regardless of where the employee is sitting.
